If you’ve ever been stationed overseas then you know that we typically have access to a Commissary, Base Exchange, Dry Cleaners and the list goes on. One of my favorites base amenities is the Salon. You can get your hair styled; your eyebrows waxed and can even be pampered with a mani/pedi. A one-stop shop if you will. We’re currently stationed at a Nato base in Stavanger Norway and you can nearly throw a rock from one end of the base to the other. It is a very small base community. The extent of our bases facilities is a Shoppette, which is comparable to a corner store. Being stationed here makes me really appreciate the base services I’ve become accustomed to.
One of the benefits of being stationed at a small base is that while the community is small and we’re all in search of quality and affordable services. No matter the demand, someone seems to know exactly where you can go to get whatever it is you need. In my case, I was in desperate need of a mani/pedi. Stavanger is nothing like the States where you can find 15 nail salons in a one-mile radius. I asked around to see if any of the spouses knew of a place where I could get a pedicure. There may have been a mention of a place or two but, the prices were almost triple the price you would pay in the States for a pedicure. One day my coworker Claire came in on her day off and she was telling me about a nice lady who did nails out of her house and at a really good price. Claire shared the ladies contact information with me and let’s just say I’ve become a very happy client since.
Her name is Dana and she is a licensed nail tech. She does quality work at a price I am comfortable paying. She is super sweet and I am so pleased to have found a place where I can pamper myself every once in a while and with a professional I trust. So far I’ve tried a regular mani/pedi and just this last visit I tried a shellac mani/pedi, my new favorite. She specializes in gel extensions, which I am very tempted to try because her nails always look so nice. But, I think I will stick with the shellac mani/pedi for now.
If you live in the area you should check it out! I promise you won’t regret it!!
