I’ve had a few people ask me where I got my vanity, so I figured I’d make a blog post for the people who are looking for an inexpensive vanity.
I’m sure you’ve heard about the IKEA hack where you buy 2 of the Alex Drawer sets costing around $79.00 each. And the Linnmon Table top costing around $36.00. This Ikea hack brings your total to $194.00
At the time I did not have the money to spend making this vanity, but I was in desperate need of a place to keep my makeup and get ready in the mornings. I did a little research and found an even cheaper hack.
I started out at Michaels craft store where I bought 2 Recollections™ 5 Drawer Letterpress Cube sets. They have unfortunately raised the price since I bought them, probably because of how many other makeup lovers were using this hack, so if you have time to spare, I would wait until they drop the price back down. They currently have them listed for $90.00 but keep in mind that Michaels constantly offers 40% off coupons, which would bring the price to $65.00. I like the Recollections drawers better than the Ikea drawers because the 5 drawers are all equal sizes. The Alex drawers start out smaller at the top and get bigger towards the bottom. For the table top I bought the ESTATE by RSI 46-in W x 14.5-in D White Wood Closet Shelf from Lowes for $12.00. Even though Michaels has raised the price on their drawers, the total still comes to $142.00 saving you $22.00. Again, I would wait until they go back on sale. But, $142.00 is not bad for a vanity.
A lot of people also buy a piece of plexiglass to put over top of the vanity to keep your makeup from staining the table. This is a great option, one that I have not yet done. You can ask an employee at Lowe’s to help you find a piece that will fit your table top. If you do this option, please let me know how it looks, and the cost.
Here was my vanity when I first put it together:
I lucked out and found that really cute stool at Michaels also, with the coupon I believe I spent around $30.00 on the stool. The mirror is also from Micheals, I needed something simple and cute to use until I had time to buy a lighted mirror (post regarding this coming soon.)
I hope this helps you guys. Let me know if you have any questions, I’d be happy to help! If you end up using this hack leave a picture of your vanity, I’d love to see it. ♥
